Information

After a few years of nothing, here again some news from me.
At first: the patcher ist still working, at least for Windows XP 32bit. I won't create a patcher for Vista or Windows 7. On the one hand, this is because Vista (and Office 2k7) showed me, that Linux is a better operating system for me, on the other hand there should not exist a limit for half-open connections in Windows 7, nor in the upcoming SP2 for Vista. At least a quick test in Windows 7 gave high speed without any messages in the event log.
My future work is more dedicated on Linux than on Windows. Windows just became a gameloader.

Update of TCPIP.SYS

Microsoft released a new TCPIP.SYS with build 5.1.2600.2892 on the yesterday's patch-day. The current Patcher 2.23d is still capable of changing the half-open tcp limit. But you need to reapply the patcher to set a higher limit to the new version.

Recent false virus-notifications

Some AntiVir Software vendors added the patcher into their virus-definitions. The patcher is often detected as 'Tool/EvID'. But as a first info:
The patcher ist NO VIRUS.
Some virus and trojanwriter uses the same technique to increase the limit. After that its easier for them to spread to other computers in the internet. This runs without knowledge of the user. So he is not informed about what's going on.
With the patcher here, every user can decide on his own if he wants to change the file and if yes how high the limit should be. Also the user will be warned if he chooses to high limits, as already infected machines will spread existent viruses and trojans easier to the net. So everybody can choose on its own and is not forced to. The patcher itself does not contain malware.
The virus-notification therefore should be seen as an information that this program contains the functionality to increase the limit. If that program is not known or has not been installed you can delete it.
I hope I have answered some questions.

Page back online

Because of a complete hd-crash and a lack of time, the page was offline for a few months. Everything should now be fixed.
The forum is still offline yet. Due still lack of time it won't really get reactivated till mid/end of October. Till then there won't be a real update either.
Support is currenly to the Faq and mail (which I will answer from time to time)
Write you later then!

Patcher Version 2.23 released!

No day passed since the last version and a new is out again.
The patcher can now access the TCPIP.SYS on 64-bit systems (since SP1) (thx Pyr0 for the info!).

I'm still looking for Itanium 64 Windows XP 64 files with limitation to add support to the next version.
Thx from me to my tester Pyr0 and Zippostar. Without you a 64-bit support would not yet be possible!
Addon: 2.23b fixes a small bug processing a registry key correctly

Patcher Version 2.22 released!

After a first malfunctioning version 2.21, here a new one.
The patcher now supports AMD64 Windows 64-files.
Itanium 64 Windows 64-files will be recognized, but cannot be patched yet due to missing files for testing. So, if you have any ... send them to me ;-)
In addtion the installation of the new TCPIP.SYS has changed. After updating the TCPIP.SYS it will be rechecked, if Windows restored the original.
Eventually interfering files will now be renamed (after query).
On the 64-bit OS's, there is a problem detecting the original TCPIP.SYS at present. It should be fixed till the next release. A temporaray solution for manual installation will display the patcher.

Windowsupdate KB893066

After a short time out new news from the front.
After Microsoft published new security-updates on April the 12th, I took a closer look at them to see if the patcher still works.
On Windows XP 32bit the patcher will run, as expected.
On the update of Windows 2003 Server 32bit (no SP only) is no limitation included.
On all 64bit Operating Systems I must ask for your patience, because the patcher (and me) do not know 64bit. But from the first analysis, there is no limitation in Windows Server 2003 64bit, but there is one on Windows XP 64bit.
More when time comes.

Patcher Version 2.12 released!

This patcher now supports the copy-back of the safety-copy.
In addition a small bug with the version-recognition has been fixed. For Windows XP versions before SP2 the system was recognised as SP2 RC1. Because no file has been changed (in both cases), this is not critical (which I then would have recognised much earlier *smile*).
Addon:
Even when the program calls itself version 2.11a, it is 2.12. I'm currently working on other things so that I don't have that much time now.

TCPIP.SYS Build 2505, KB884020

After Microsoft set up a page for a hotfix known under KB884020, I received this for testing in english and german.
After I installed it on a test-system, there was NO change in the concurrent connection-limit by default (still 10), but the patcher is able to increase the limit. Only the 127.0.0.1 case seemed to be fixed in this build.
I don't think, that the limit will be removed again, as it is described as a "feature" at Microsoft (Link right, search for 4226). Also the raw-sockets problem is decribed there.
So I will still have work to do in the next time *smile*.

Patcher Version 2.10a released!

It now also supports Windows 2003 Server SP1 beta.
In addition the parameter /L has been changed, so that a limit can be entered during runtime.
